We are inviting applications for the position of Accountant. In this position you will report to the Finance Manager, and be part of the team that ensures the smooth functioning LHR's financial affairs, in accordance with our budgets, donor obligations, payroll, and audit requirements.

Responsibilities will include:

Financial Management

  • Checking that all financial transactions have been correctly allocated on Pastel Accounting software.
  • Updating GL cashbooks and journals.
  • Reviewing bank recons and journals processed by the Finance Officers.
  • Checking the GL for an errors and reposting transactions and journals to be signed off by the Finance Manager.
  • Creating new general ledger accounts.
  • Monitor bank accounts and financial affairs of the organization and inform Financial Manager of any discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Ensuring debtors and creditors are properly loaded and reconciled.
  • Ensure EFT payments are made timeously as per agreements.
  • Preparing for audit and assisting Auditors with all required information.
  • Process all inter -bank transfers and ensure that the main account has enough funds to cover the expenses.
  • Update and reconcile the call account.
  • Administer foreign payments.
  • Checking that financial data is properly filed.
  • Submit VAT recons on the SARS website and follow up on any outstanding payments from SARS.

Financial Reporting

  • Preparing all Financial Reports such as Income and Expenditure Statements, Balance Sheet, Expenditure vs. Budget and Budget Forecasts before the 15th of every month.
  • Finance reports should be checked by the Financial Manager before the agreed date.
  • Ensuring that annual and quarterly cashflows are prepared and monitored in case of any foreseeable cash problems.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Management packs for presentation to the Board of Directors.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the Annual Report.
  • Prepare monthly Reports for Project coordinators.

Payroll Administration

  • Processing the monthly salary journals using a schedule to be received from the HR Officer.
  • Processing UIF and PAYE (EMP201) on the SARS efiling website.
  • Transfer the relevant salary amounts from the call account to the main account for payments.
  • Work with HR officer to ensure that salaries are paid by the 25th of every month.
  • Budgeting
  • Assist in the process of developing an Annual Operational Budget and a Capital Budget for the organisation with the relevant stakeholders in the last quarter of the year.
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager in consolidating the Annual budget.
  • Monitor the budget on a monthly basis and advice Project managers on variances.
  • Report budget variances to the Finance Manager on a monthly basis.
  • Develop Income Budget for the organisation taking into account donor commitments and contracts.
  • Donor Finance
  • Maintaining a record of donor contracts, payment dates and reporting deadlines.
  • Keep detailed records of the Finances per donor.
  • Provide timeous donor reports as per donor specification.
  • Monitor that the Finance Officers’ donor reports and contracts systematically.
  • Liaise with donors in regard to payment and reporting queries.
  • Prepare Budgets for funding proposals.
